Bible Talk Tuesday-Angels

ANGELOLOGY

Angelology is the study of the theology of angels. Angels are created beings, and some of their main functions include praising God, being ministers, servants, and messengers of God, and they minister to God’s people.

Scriptural Evidence

1)     They were created when the earth was laid. “Where were you when I laid the foundation of the earth….and all the sons of God shouted for joy”. (Job 38:1,7)

2)     They are created beings. “For by him all things were created, in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible…” (Colossians 1:16)

3)     They are called on to praise the Lord. “Praise him, all his angels”. (Psalm 146:2) “Bless the LORD, O you his angels”. (Psalm 103:20)

4)     They worship God. “And again, when he brings the firstborn into the world he says, ‘Let all God’s angels worship him’”. (Hebrews 1:6)

5)     They hover around the throne of God in heaven, praising Him. “Then I looked, and I heard around the throne and the living creatures and the elders of the voice of many angels, numbering myriads and thousands and thousands, saying with a loud voice. ‘Worthy is the lamb who was slain’”. (Revelation 5:11-12)

6)     They are immortal in heaven. “For in the resurrection, they neither marry nor are given in marriage, but are like angels in heaven”. (Matthew 22:30)

7)     They are very bright in their appearance. “…two men stood by them in dazzling apparel”. (Luke 24:4) “Then I saw another mighty angel coming down from heaven, wrapped in a cloud, with a rainbow over his head, and his face was like the sun, and his legs like pillars of fire”. (Revelation 10:1)

8)     They were used as God’s messengers. “Why do you seek the living among the dead? He is not here, but has risen”. (Luke 24:5-6)

9)     They have intellect. “…things into which angels long to look”. (1 Peter 1:12)

10) They have greater might and power than man. “…whereas angels, though greater in might and power…” (2 Peter 2:11)

11) They observe man. “In the presence of God and of Christ Jesus and of the elect angels…” (1 Timothy 5:21)

12) God has given them power to inflict harm. “Immediately an angel of the Lord struck him down, because he did not give God the glory, and he was eaten by worms and breathed his last”. (Acts 12:23) “Then the angel of the LORD went out and put to death a hundred and eighty-five thousand in the Assyrian camp” (Isaiah 37:36).

13) They are ministering spirits to the elect. “Are they not all ministering spirits sent out to serve for the sake of those who are to inherit salvation?” (Hebrews 1:14)

14) They have names, such as “Gabriel” (Daniel 9:21) and “Michael” (Daniel 12:1).

15) They were deliverers of God’s people. “But during the night an angel of the Lord opened the prison doors and brought them out”. (Acts 5:19)

16) They protected God’s people. “My God sent his angel and shut the lions’ mouths, and they have not harmed me”. (Daniel 6:22)

17) They have executed judgement. “He let loose on them his burning anger, wrath, indignation, and distress, a company of destroying angels”. (Psalm 78:49)
